For a while now I’ve been trying to put my theme, philosophy, “brand” if you will, into words. A short-catchy phrase that sums up my essence, who I envision myself to be going forward, and also what I want my fledgling coaching company to embody. Who is Jennifer Rackley and what makes J Rackley Coaching different? Marketing has never been my forte so this has been a struggle. I completed a values assessment (that helped a little). I scoured the internet for quote that sang to me. And I determined it is really hard to sum yourself up in a few words. Ugh.
But then I found this quote by the late Nelson Mandela –
“There is no passion to be found in playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
And I realized that was it – Play Big! That’s right – Play Big! In everything we do are we playing big or is fear, discontent, or apathy causing us to play small? Are we striving to always give our best no matter the circumstances? Or are we allowing other’s thoughts, perceptions and attitudes to dictate how we show up in life? Are we settling for a life that is less than the one we are capable of living; the life that we were meant to live?
To me, playing big means I try new things (foods, trips, hobbies, and even businesses…), love fully (even when it means my heart might get broken), do work I love, that fulls me and helps others, and that I love others fully and completely even when they are hard to love. I want to help others Play Big in work and in life. I still have a ton of work to do each and every day to play as big as I want to in life and I know that just getting out of bed with that attitude is the first step…
Play Big – Life is too short to play small. Where do you need to start playing big?
